How do I calculate roof area for a pitched roof?

Multiply the floor area (length × width) by the pitch factor. For example, a 1000 sq ft floor with 6/12 pitch (1.20 factor) gives 1200 sq ft of roofing material needed.

How many shingle bundles do I need?

Three bundles of asphalt shingles cover 100 sq ft (1 square). Divide your total roof area by 100 and multiply by 3. Add 10% for waste.

What's the difference between hip and gable roof?

Hip roof has slopes on all four sides, requiring 15% more material. Gable roof has two sloping sides with vertical ends, requiring 10% more material than a basic pitched roof.
